Jay Cutler was
born on August 3, 1973 in Worcester,
Massachusetts and grew up in a small
town called Sterling. Jay enjoyed an
active childhood playing sports all
through school, and started working
for his brother’s concrete business
at the young age of eleven. There is
no doubt that his active childhood
was the foundation for his
bodybuilding career.
Jay graduated
from high school in 1991 and began
studying criminal justice at
Quinsigamond Community College.
During his college years Jay didn’t
play any organized sports so he
needed something to fill the void
that was left by his former athletic
activities. This is when he
discovered bodybuilding.
Jay originally
began bodybuilding to get in better
shape but it quickly became an
obsession, he wanted to compete
professionally. Jay Cutler competed
in his first bodybuilding show at
the age of 19, the Teen Nationals in
Raleigh, NC. Jay Cutler took first
place in his very first bodybuilding
competition; this victory was the
first of many that would follow in
what has been called one of the best
bodybuilding careers to date.
After his first
victory Jay began training with a
man named Bruce Vartanian and
quickly developed a winning
physique.
Jay Cutler
gained professional status when he
swept the Nationals in 19996 and was
quickly bombarded with contract
offers, which led to him signing on
with Joe Weider’s company.
He then took
1997 off to work on his body and
made a return in 1998 at the Night
of Champions in New York City, where
he placed a decent 11th. Jay decided
to work harder on his image and took
the rest of 1998 of to prepare for
contests in 1999. When he showed up
at the Pro Ironman Invitational he
placed 3rd and later took an
impressive 4th at the Arnold
Classic. Later that year Jay placed
15th at the Olympia.
In May of 2000
Jay Cutler won the night of
champions, followed by 8th at the
Olympia and the 2nd at the English
and Italian Grand Prix’s. At the
Olympia in 2001 Jay Cutler placed a
controversial 2nd place behind the
winner, Big Ronnie Coleman. Many
people thought that Jay should have
been the winner. The following year
Jay won the Arnold Classic over
Chris Cormier and took the rest of
the year off to focus on 2003.
2003 was
unofficially dubbed “The Year of Jay
Cutler.” Jay set the bodybuilding
world on fire. He won five contests,
the IronMan Pro Invitational, the
Arnold Schwarzenegger Classic and
the San Francisco Pro Invitational,
the English and Dutch Grand Prix’s,
and placed 2nd in three contests,
Mr. Olympia, Russian Grand Prix and
the GNC Show of Strength. The
bodybuilding community was astounded
at what Jay Cutler managed to
accomplish in 2003.
Jay has managed
to place 2nd in the 2004 and 2005
Mr. Olympia’s and has his mind set
on defeating the current champ
Ronnie Coleman in 2006.
Best of luck
